About

Hosted by The University of Edinburgh's K-Pop Society, Scotland's first K-Pop dance competition is designed to make stage performance accessible to student societies across the UK without the steep travel costs and distances of existing events. While built primarily for university crews (especially Scottish student groups), independent local teams also have room to perform and develop their dancing in an open division. As this is the inaugural run, the organisers ask for patience with any teething issues while getting everything off the ground.

What's on
  • Girl Group category: uncut Korean group tracks for university teams

  • Boy Group category: uncut Korean group tracks for university teams

  • Open category: five-minute routines across mashups, studios, and Asian pop

Before you go

Submit registrations through the Google site linked by @klashcomp_edi before the deadline of 31 October at 23:59. Solo entries are not permitted; every routine requires at least two dancers. Dancers may only represent a single team across the entire competition, meaning university students competing in an unaffiliated crew cannot also dance for their university society.

University teams can enter any category and must have all student members show their matriculation cards on arrival to prevent disqualification. Non-student allowances depend strictly on squad size: one guest for groups of 2 to 5 dancers, two for 6 to 9, three for 10 to 15, and four for squads of 16 or more. Unaffiliated crews may enter only the Open category, must supply proof that their group existed before registration, and all members must be at least 18 years old by the competition date.

Entries in the Girl Group and Boy Group divisions must use a single unedited Korean track with unaltered choreography, excluding global groups such as KATSEYE, XG, SAINT SATINE, NiziU, WayV, or TNT. Email klashdancecompetition@gmail.com in advance for clearance regarding mixed-gender line-ups, formation adjustments for smaller teams, and any stunt alterations. Any routine incorporating stunts must notify organisers beforehand and attend the mandatory safety checks between 11:30am and 12:00pm. Open category sets allow music edits, mashups, Asian pop tracks (such as BINI or no na), or Korean studio pieces (such as 1MILLION or JustJerk), kept to a maximum running time of five minutes.

Competitors need to arrive on site at 10:30am for practice slots running until 12:00pm. For transit, the location is closest to Edinburgh Waverley railway station, the St. Andrew Square tram stop, and bus stops at Surgeons' Hall, West Richmond Street, and South Bridge. Nearby places to stay within a short walk include Ten Hill Place Hotel (three minutes), KM Hotel (four minutes), Travelodge Edinburgh Central and Holiday Inn Express (five minutes), and A&O Hostel (six minutes).

The usable stage space measures 7m by 7m, raised and not raked. Because of space limits, any routine fielding an unsafe number of dancers on stage will not be permitted to perform.

Judging categories will be published once registration concludes. Participation fees include an official competition-branded t-shirt, handed out to each registered dancer on the day.
